The International University in Geneva has a strong student council active in areas such as social activities, community service and advocacy. Weekly meetings are held to resolve student issues and to recommend and implement changes to the current student environment. Specific activities include preparing the annual yearbook, community service events with the United Nations and UNICEF, and cultural excursions in Switzerland and beyond.
Letter from the Student Council President
The International University in Geneva is an institution which takes pride in its effort to provide a global education to its students. It does so through with the help of its teaching staff, experienced individuals with great knowledge in their respective fields, showing care and attention to each student, in a diverse, rich and multicultural environment.
The purpose of the Student Council is to empower the students and make their voice heard. We represent the medium between them, the professors and the administration. We strive to improve the experience of the student body within the university by organizing all the different events of the year and communicating their opinions further. Through weekly meetings we set our objectives of the future and analyze ways of improvement our future activities. We use the feedback from the students in order to better understand how to make the Student Council better in achieving our aims and making every student proud of saying they are at IUG.
There is a diverse range of activities such as lounge events held at some of Geneva’s best locations aimed at providing students with a warm social environment to get to know new people and enjoy time with their friends outside of the classroom. We organize different trips during the academic year, such as the Chocolate Factory of Cailler and the Ski Weekend (this year in the picturesque Swiss resort of Saas-Fee, the pearl of the Swiss Alps). We are also providing the student body with a great opportunity to participate in the renowned Harvard World Model United Nations conference in Rome this year.
We strongly encourage IUG students to help us raise funds for charity in order to help those who are less fortunate. This academic year we are working with MEDAIR, an organization focusing specifically on providing relief to people in remote isolated areas and help them to recover and learn and rebuild their future.
All students are invited and welcomed to join the Student Council and help us work together to achieve greater goals than ever before and make this another memorable year at IUG.
Student Council President 2015/16
